Use JPG when
You have a photograph, a form that asks for JPG, or you want the smallest widely accepted file. JPG loses a little quality each time it is saved, so keep an original.
Use PNG when
You need transparency, sharp text or lines, or lossless editing. PNG files are bigger, so do not use them for large photos on the web.
Use WebP when
You publish images on a website and want faster pages. WebP is usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at similar quality. Some older programs and forms still reject it.
