How to use it

  1. Choose your photo or drop it into the box. The first time, the tool loads a small AI model (about 46 MB).
  2. Wait 10 to 30 seconds while it finds the subject, then pick a background. Fine-tune the edges or fix details with the Restore and Erase brush if needed.
  3. Download the result: a transparent PNG, or a JPG with a white, grey, black or custom background.

Tips for this kind of photo

Depop is a visual app, so a consistent background across your shop makes it look professional. Pick light grey or white and keep it the same for every item.

The tool runs an open-source AI model (IS-Net, Apache 2.0 licence) directly in your browser using WebAssembly, so there is no upload, no queue and no watermark. A model small enough to run in a browser cannot match the largest paid cloud tools on very difficult images such as fine hair or glass, but for clear subjects it usually works well.

Questions

How do I remove the background from a photo?

Choose your photo and wait a few seconds while the tool finds the subject. Then pick a background (transparent, white, grey or black) and download.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The background remover runs inside your browser, so your product photos never leave your device. The first use downloads the model (about 46 MB), and later uses are faster.

What photos work best?

Clear subjects on a plain, contrasting background: products on a table or sheet, clothes on a hanger, single objects. Busy backgrounds, hair, glass and very fine details can leave rough edges.

Can I fix mistakes in the cutout?

Yes. Use Restore to paint back parts that were removed by mistake and Erase to remove leftover background. The Edge slider makes the outline tighter or looser, Smooth softens it, and Undo steps back.

Can I use it for Amazon, Etsy or Shopify listings?

Yes. Choose a white background and tick "Square canvas" to get a centred product on a square white image. Check each marketplace for its current image rules, because they change.
